The Board has determined that access control will only apply to boats registered with Sandyport Security Services. Unregistered boats may continue to use the canal however will not be required to clear Security Control. All traffic passing through the canal inlet will continue to be subject to surveillance.

The registration requirements have been changed effective immediately and we ask that owners re-register in accordance with the following requirements:

Important Security Updates for May 1, 2012

We have introduced further measures to enhance the security of our community as follows:

Worker Identification

All workers (including housekeepers, gardeners, handymen etc.) are required to obtain a pass and enter the property via the service entrance. Occasional workers may obtain a day pass at the entrance subject to paying a $1 deposit (refunded on exit) and clearing security in the usual manner.

Contractors and regular workers, including those that are employed by contractors, are required to purchase an annual pass at a cost of $10 per annum (or $1 per month or part thereof if purchased during the year).

To qualify for a pass the applicant should obtain authorization from the property owner. In the event that the applicant is employed by a third party authorized by the owner, such as a contractor, that third party should make the application on behalf of its’ personnel.

The annual passes expire on December 31 at midnight. Call 327 6943 for further information.

Sample ID pass

Boat Identification

All boats belonging to Sandyport residents are required to be registered and obtain a vehicle identification decal from the main security office. Unregistered boats will be refused entry after May 31, 2012.

Canal Barrier

The barrier is closed between one hour before sundown and 30 minutes after sunrise. In the event that access is required during these hours, boaters are required to notify the Security department beforehand to schedule an arrival time.

In the event that boaters expect to arrive outside of the scheduled time, contact the Security department (327 6943 or channel 72) in advance to reschedule since opening the canal barrier is a multi-step process that takes some time. Preferably notice should be given before the barrier is due to close.

Automatic Entry Lane

Under normal operating circumstances the automatic entry lane barrier will not open unless the vehicle is fitted with the requisite barcoded decal. Those attempting to enter without a decal will need to reverse and enter via the regular entry lane. For further details on obtaining an automatic entry decal click here.

Security updates – May 2011

Warm Greetings to all of our Residents!

Thankfully, April has been another quiet month!

As you may have noticed, some of the speed bumps have been removed. With this in mind, please be mindful of children who may be playing in the area especially on the weekends. As a reminder, the speed limit is 15 mph. We are adding more signs throughout the property in the coming weeks.

Pet Stations have been put in place throughout the property. These stations are to assist pet owners dispose of their pet’s waste. I would encourage all pet owners to use them as they take their pets walking.

We have been having an ongoing problem with pets being a nuisance to other residents, in particular cats. Please as much as possible keep your pets within the confines of your property.

As an additional reminder, the Canal gate opens at 7am and closes 9pm. Please adhere to the time that is stipulated. Only in cases of emergencies, should there be a request for the times to be extended. We are monitoring channel 72 on our ship-to-shore radio.Boats that enter and leaving the Canal at late hours are a disturbance to other Residents.

Finally, please remember to instruct workers to use the Service Gate.

New enforcement measures

Penalties for breaches of Restrictive Covenants

The Board has determined that the owners of lots that are in breach of the Restrictive Covenants shall be subject to a $1,000 fine for each month or part thereof that the breach persists.

Specifically, this is intended to dissuade owners from storing property such as trailers, containers, boats or other vehicles on empty lots. Fines shall be imposed from April 1, 2011 and be subject to our standard debt collection procedures and penalties in the event that they remain unpaid.

Penalties for property stored on common areas

Pursuant to the notice issued on November 23, 2010 concerning the removal of property from common areas, the Association reserves the right to remove said property and sell it to recover removal costs.

The Board has determined that any property that is removed by the Association shall be stored at a cost of $1,000 per month (or part thereof) per item for a period of 3 months. Thereafter, the property shall be sold and any proceeds applied to the owner’s account.

Restricted entry for residents not in good standing

The Board has determined that residents with past due accounts or those that are in breach of the Restrictive Covenants may not enter the property via the main entrance. Our security team will be issued with a restricted entry list and will refuse entry at the main entrance to those listed residents and their visitors.

Use of boat slips

The Board has determined that only boats registered to residents may use the boat slips within Sandyport and registration details must be filed with our security department. Boats moored in slips that are not registered with residents of Sandyport shall not be permitted re-entry into the development.

Security updates – February 2011

Warm Greetings to our Residents.

Thankfully, January was yet another quiet month for Security.

There are few noteworthy changes within the Security Department, firstly, as you may have noticed the Security Officers are wearing new uniforms. The uniform has changed from white shirts and aqua pants and skirts. It is now white shirts, black pants or skirts, and black caps.

Secondly, new bicycles were purchased for the Security Officers to use. The bicycles will assist greatly with the Officers responding quickly to emergency calls.

There are some reminders I would like for all Residents to keep in mind.

  1. All boat owners please stop by and inform Security when you are expecting a boat mechanic to remove your boat off the property to be repaired or serviced. Boats will not be allowed to leave otherwise. There are occasions when we have to track down the boat owner for verification. However, if boat owners leave instructions with Security it will make the process smooth for all parties.
  2. The visitor badge system is progressing well. We are still experiencing resistance from some visitors. With this in mind, I would like to encourage all Residents to inform their Service Workers to enter and exit through the Service Gate.
  3. If you are having work done to your home and there is a need to use a ladder, have the contractor secure it before they leave.
  4. There is an increase of speeding not only visitors but by residents. Please remember that the speed limit is 15 mph.
  5. Please be reminded that there will be no work permitted on the weekends. Some Residents mislead Security by informing them that they are expecting guests who are later found working on their property. Consequently, they are then escorted out by Security or asked to leave. The only exception to this rule is in cases of emergencies.

Security updates – December 2010

Warm Season’s Greetings to our residents!

Thankfully, November was a quiet month in Sandyport. Just a friendly reminder to all residents to  please remember to take along a doggy bag when walking your dogs. We have noticed an increase in incidents with dogs. There are occurrences where the doggy bag with the waste in it is thrown on the side of the road, please consider other residents when walking the dog.

Christmas party guests

It is the time of the year when residents host their Christmas parties and family get-togethers.  In order to ensure guests are not held up at the Security gate for clearance, please send a list of expected guests to the Security control room the day before the event. The list should include the visitor’s names as well as the total amount of persons expected.

Family and friends listing

If any resident has family and friends that frequent the property and do not want them to be held up at the gate. Please  provide a list of these persons to Security to keep on file. Security will otherwise carry out their expected duty of calling for each person not on the list without any exceptions.

Visitor badges

As previously mentioned, all workers including construction workers, gardeners, and contractors will be issued visitor badges on arrival at the service entrance. The new procedure commences December 13, 2010, initially with construction workers. In order to make this process flow please remind your private gardeners and service workers that they are not to use the main entrance. They are required to use the service entrance for entry AND exit. The only exception will be female pedestrian workers that have been pre-registered by their employers.

We are presently carrying out an exercise of obtaining the names of the maids and their employers. If a worker is terminated, please inform security so that we can ensure that disgruntled workers are not permitted on the property.

Removal of property by third parties

In the event that a resident requires a third party to collect private property (such as a boat or jet ski), please notify security of the details of the property to be removed for identification purposes together with the party authorised to collect the same. When the property exits the estate, security will identify it and contact the owner with details in order to verify that it is the correct item being removed.

Stray pets

We have set up various traps to help humanely capture stray pets (specifically dogs). We would like residents to take care and ensure that their pets are not able to roam freely as they may be caught in one of the traps and ultimately end up in the care of the Humane Society if we are unable to contact the owner within 48 hours.

Resident pet owners may consider including an emergency telephone number on their pet tags, allowing security to quickly reunite a captured pet with its owner.
