Mosquito control

Our pest control contractor will be fogging the development on August 24, 2011 with a pesticide to reduce the presence of mosquitoes that are contributing to the present dengue fever outbreak. Open water will also be treated with a system to kill larvae. A further treatment will take place in the month of October.

Treatment will take place between the hours of 2:30am and 5:00am, the following guidelines should be observed by all residents:

  1. No persons and/or animals are to be outside during the fogging procedure treatment time.
  2. Close windows and doors during the fogging exercise, they should remain closed for 45 minutes after completion.
  3. Cover swimming pools and decorative water features.
  4. Place all pet feeding/watering bowls indoors.
  5. Turn off all fans and/or air conditioners or set them at exhaust.
  6. Persons and animals can go outside (if necessary) 45 minutes upon completion of the fogging activity. Note this is especially important for children, pregnant women and asthmatics.
  7. Rinse all household items/toys that were left outside before using them.
  8. Rinse all fruits and vegetables (that were in the garden/yard) thoroughly before consuming them.
  9. Note the product scheduled to be used does not have a residual therefore items 3, 4, 7 & 8 noted above are precautionary measures.

Perhaps in the future, a notice should be delivered to residents to notify them that having their air conditioning on could be hazardous to their health. Not everyone logs onto this site every day and learning after the fact that my health, along with the health of my young children, was put in jeopardy. I’m pregnant and NOW I find out that my A/C was pumping in this chemical? Surely SHA can do a little better when it comes to notifying their residents that dangerous spraying is going to be done. Is SHA willing to inform those of us who are pregnant, have asthma, young children, etc exactly what chemical was used and what the possible health side-effects are? I’m sure I’m not the only parent who didn’t get his message until after the fact.

So now it as been cancelled again. May I ask why we haven’t been fogged at all when the rest of the island and cable beach has. I also emailed asking when we will be fogged but have yet to receive a reply.

The Fogging toke place at 2:30am – 5am this Morning. The pest Control Company was having some issues with there equipment so they called last minute to confirm that they were able to get the equipment working and that they would be able to fog on Thursday Morning.

Why is this? Will the hurricane remove the fogging chemical,as the actual fogging was due to take place well before?

We have been advised from the Pest control Company that due to the weather they can not fog for the mosquitoes in the rain. You may contact them directly if you wish for further information 327-6464
